Buruklyn Boyz have unveiled Kenyan Rap, the bold third single from their upcoming album 58 FLAVA. Following the success of Rich Or Broke, which surpassed 100,000 YouTube views, the duo teased Kenyan Rap on Instagram on September 1, 2025. The music video released yesterday, a month later, featuring the Kenyan flag prominently throughout. Directed by AllDayAmar, it clearly communicated Ajay and Mr. Right’s message: When you mention Kenyan rap, you have to name Buruklyn Boyz.

The track’s instrumental evokes suspense. Periodic standout sounds complement a minimalistic 808 and hi-hat pattern, merging seamlessly with the vocals. Ajay begins the chorus, proclaiming Buruklyn Boyz’ undeniable influence on Kenyan rap’s landscape: “Wakibonga ju ya Kenyan rap, Buruklyn Boyz huwezi kosa kuname, usiwai compare ma pikin na us, watoi ndio wameingia kwa game / Album jamo imenieka fiti 2 years plus, na siwezi complain, na bado naleta heat sidhani mambleina watacontain.” Ajay emphasizes Buruklyn Boyz’s unmatched status over newcomers, reminding everyone that their debut album East Mpaka London (2022) is a still a success to this day.

“Wanashinda wamehate maboy, nikama maboy hawadeserve it, regardless, bado joh wakibonga, si ni ma G ka Rigathi.” Ajay opens his verse questioning the hate they face, countering it with humorous wordplay, referencing the Former Deputy President of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua’s nickname, Riggy G. “Nilijua kuna mabro wataswitch, alafu waniite mtiaji, na ka kuna opp joh anadai smoke, mshow ngwai zangu ni za Miami.” He proclaims he knew some brothers would switch up on him following up with a clever metaphor. ‘Smoke’ is slang for trouble. It implies someone looking for a confrontation or competition. The phrase ‘my weed is from Miami’, suggests Ajay’s ‘smoke’ (response) is potent, exotic, or superior.

“Wanacheza PES, si bro tunaplay chess, nawashow wanigee a couple of years, wanicheki na GLS / na wakidhani ni ndumba, warudi kwa hii ngoma, waskie nikimanifest / It’s funny vile niko hapa, na nlikuwa nalala kwa desk.” Ajay ends his verse likening his team’s strategic moves to those made when playing chess, contrasting rivals’ simplistic Pro Evolution Soccer tactics, from the video game of the same name. He aspires to own a Mercedes GLS car soon, while recalling sleeping on the desk in high school. Clearly, he’s amazed by how far he has come.

Mr. Right effortlessly begins his verse immediately after Ajay’s: “Wakibonga ju ya Kenyan Rap, Buruklyn Boyz huwezi kosa kuname, yo, naifanya vi-easy, 1 plus 1 flow yangu insane / Wedding? chanda na pete, sai naweza sema nimemarry the game, time inasonga, me & my bro tukona watch the same.” He uses an idiom or nahau to describe how he’s married to the rap game, comparing his devotion to rap to a ring’s closeness to its finger. He switches his flow, while doubling down on the success of their debut album, declaring it’s still being played in clubs: “East Mpaka London, kwa mabukla bado inaturn up-turn up / Standing on business, Bboy Settingz cheque inapanda sana, anadai favour, nimdropie 58 FLAVA.”

He closes out his verse by manifesting success in 2026: “Worldwide tour, plane, whips, ride Bottega, convoy, na ma Escalade, this coming year my G nafeel kuna better days / Si ni ma trapper, ma cop wanadai ku investigate, player kwa Kenyan rap, siwezi kakosa akiget away.” Though successful, Buruklyn Boyz persist in street hustling, mindful of potential police attention.

The single was a bold, upbeat celebration of success and longevity in the rap game. Buruklyn Boyz haven’t dissapointed with this release. The music video was crisp in high definition, featured different locations and had smooth transitions. The beat composed by Young Blake fit perfectly with the theme of the song and mixing and mastering done by Clue Ashaivisha Track was on point. The duo’s consistency is commendable, and their committment to improving after every release is a lesson in dedication for everyone to follow. I cannot wait for more songs and the full release of the album. Read another article here.
