Frank White, better known as 4Mr Frank White, has arguably delivered the best album of his career with “Taigwa Goma”. This AfroSwing masterpiece features Breeder LW, Lil Maina, Iyanah, Vijana Barubaru, and more. Hailing from Kahawa West Ward in Nairobi, Frank White is a rising artist who has been making waves with his previous projects: “Definition Ya A Real One” (2023), “Mziza Wa Dimanga”, and “Too Good To Be True: Pregame” (2024).

His genres are Rap and AfroSwing, which combine Afrobeats, dancehall, grime, R&B, trap, and hip-hop. In his own words, “The album reflects my transition as an artist. It is a journey that solidifies my place in the afro swing culture, with the shift from underground music to a more commercial sound without losing the essence of my roots.,” Frank wrote on an Instagram post on the 2nd of January.

We launch the new Frank White Taigwa Goma album with the single ‘‘Taigwa Goma.” Chill vibes as the song is a boastful paper-chasing anthem. The chorus repeats, “I need some commas X3. “The beat is bouncy and features a hilarious introduction sample from “Breaking Bad” where Jesse says “This is art Mr.White,” referring to Walter White’s cooking. Frank infers the album is art and we should expect it as we listen.
“Last Time” is the 2nd track ft. Dreekz is a motivational song with a soft am piano beat. The theme is progress and he says he’s doing it again and making this album cause it seems people didn’t hear the last one. They can’t ignore this one.
“Back Pain” is the third song and has a beautiful piano beat. It is a boastful track about how he’s carrying the rap game as he is unique. The song features NDOVU KUU in a relaxed video in one of their houses. Here is a simile from his verse: “Hii ni ya wale wa I wanna bee, ka nyuki.”
The second song with a music video, “Diligent Flow II” is the 4th track. It’s another smooth piano beat. He uses a boom rap type of flow in this song. With his lyricism shining. The theme is an elevation in his career.”They can’t see me wanawonder kama Steve.”
“Ones N Twos” switches the vibe to the club once again. The 5th song is a high-tempo, braggadicious song about hustling. Bars are never-ending, “Kwa hood na slither, me na chat tu (chatu.)”
“Mikono Juu” ft. Breeder LW is the 6th and my favorite track. It’s a party anthem, with an arbantone type beat and the artists display lyricism and rhyme. We are also treated to a back-to-back battle of 8 bars in the final verse.
‘Ndani ya 9 to 5” is a hip hop beat with the underground classic style Frank came into the game with 2 years ago. The 7th track displays his flow changes and versatility.
“Rema” ft. Dice King turns the mood back to a relaxed groove. He has fun on the track comparing his quality of songs with the hitmaker Rema’s. Dice King carried the song in my opinion with bars such as, “Beat ka ni kali naidandia ka donda, early in the morning ndani ya grind ka ibada.”
“Tuko Na Show” ft. NIGGA SHAWN is the 9th song and has a simple beat with a heavy bass and a nice background vocal throughout the song. It is also a showboating song, about the lavish rapper lifestyle.
“Tempt“, the 10th song features hitmaker and household artist Lil Maina. It samples P-Square ft. Alaye’s – Temptation. The sampling on the album is top notch showing the taste Frank has.
“Glory” feels like a bonus or interlude track. It is the 11th on the project and switches the vibe to that of thanksgiving and gratitude to The Lord for showing Frank the success he has gotten so far. The beat is almost gospel with beautiful choir vocals in the background.
“More Time” features Vijana Barubaru and makes the listener get back into a love mood. The theme is asking a lady to be patient, give you more time to reach your goals, and build yourself. He promises the world to this lady.
“Try” is the motivational 13th track about the hustle once more. “Natry kila kitu natry kila siku” he emphasises the essence why he has to try to make it. We get a picture of a father who is an addict and a mother who is hoping Frank makes it in life.
“Sometimes” ft. Tasha Fears is a soft beautiful introspective song with beautiful vocals from Tasha. It’s theme is about vulnerability and the normal self doubts we all face. The 14th song reminds us to keep going despite the struggle.
“Cruising” ft. Ni Lifah is the 15th song on the album. It has a beautiful amapiano beat. Frank showcases his singing ability. It’s theme it about “the bros” and how they are driving and are always together and have each other’s backs.
“My Boo” ft. Iyanah is a beautiful love song where a vivid picture of longing for a long gone lover or relationship. Another beautiful sample choice of Usher’s My Boo ft. Alicia Keys. This is a great choice for a romantic night.
“Type” continues the theme of love as the 17th song. Frank confesses to a woman that she is his type, proceeding with the promises he makes to her if he can have her.
“Manifest” closes out the album with it’s inspiring lryics, upbeat 808s and club vibe. Frank speaks about he has already manifested many things over the years and feels he has made much progress and the trajectory is only up.
Verdict
The Frank White GOMA album is a solid 8.5/10. It boasts exceptional beat and sample selection, dynamic collaborations, and versatile themes ranging from introspection to celebration. While more introspective tracks could have added depth, this album is a whole vibe, leaving us eagerly anticipating Frank’s next project.
