Mtu Wa Shughuli marks yet another successful collaboration for 23 year old singer and songwriter, Dyna Cods. The Kisumu native has been on a hot streak. Her most recent collaboration with buzzing talent Toxic Lyrikali, Get Busy, is currently #60 in the Top 100 Music Videos in Kenya. Domani Munga’s feature on this track, once more showcased his talent for creating a catchy chorus. The music video, which released on her channel 2 days ago, is currently #7 on Kenya’s Trending Music Videos List and deservedly so.

The beat features a “four-two pulse” piano rythm that gives the song a certain bounce against the slightly distorted gengeton-like 808s. Domani opens the chorus with a very catchy flow: “Oh love! Si we ata unaona ana inisist? Anafanya mpaka ninacheat / Nagwaya marriage, kukosa bundles na battery low. (X2)” He blames another woman for his promuscuity, saying she was basically all over him, insisting. He resumes by listing 3 things he can’t associate with: marriage, lacking data and having a low battery. His choice to name marriage first, after mentioning lack of self control, is fitting.

Cods completes the chorus as follows: “Nilikuwa najua we ni mtu wa shughuli. (X4)” Here, a conversation between secret lovers unfolds, with her claiming he was “fitting for the job” as they subtly shade his partner, agreeing he couldn’t resist her charm. This particular narrative is potrayed vividly as Domani even points to Cods as the chorus plays, suggesting she did in fact ‘insist.’

“Bad girl like me, a Kenyan baddie, ati siwezi shiba kama food haina ugali / Luwere Luwere, ati natrend TikTok ka misheveve,” Dyna opens the first verse hilariously. “Bomboclat nikibonga utaskia, 10/10 ukibonga utarudia / Anadai akam through acheki inner core, since umeinsist siezi sema no / Freaky freaky X3, Undercover tunaget busy busy,” she carries on, revealing that the man offered to come over and they got freaky and busy. She then completes her verse by allowing the last line to flow effortlessly into the chorus: “Nampepetea ju ya leso, anadai nitouch toes, mateso / Nampepetea ju ya leso, na nikitouch toes analia-“

Domani Munga cleverly opens his verse saying his crew is only taking flights now. He references the Maintenance Error Decision Aid system in the Boeing airplanes and the use of Cessna aircraft by various operators in Kenya for tourism: “Still with my gang tuko MEDA, mi naongelea Cessna, simaanishi Aviator.” He continues by boasting his well deserved success: “Kwani haujai jua I’m on supply now? Hadi ma opps wanaidai town / To all my haters pia my opponents, nilimake sure biz zao zilidie down.” He doubles down on his disinterest in marriage: “En route, sahii niko South Iteso, nilikushow siwezi settle, ukadhani ni mchezo.”

Conclusion

The song is a vibe and I won’t be surprised to hear it everywhere anytime soon. The narrative was immaculately formed and executed while maintaining a laid back and fun vibe. The beat reminds me of the gengetone and arbantone waves with its bounce and the catchy, repetitive chorus tops it all off. The wardrobe choices were spot on with Domani’s spotless white blazer and Dyna’s variety of dresses. Both artists delivered through this project, reminding us exactly why they are at the top of the music industry at the moment. I cannot wait to see more work from the two. My final rating for this masterpiece is a strong 9.5/10. Read another article here.
