Today, the focus is on her journey as a beauty entrepreneur. In this interview, she shares her inspirations, challenges, and future plans for Freya Beauty.

Q: What inspired you to venture into the beauty industry, specifically makeup artistry?
Freya: My journey into the beauty industry was largely influenced by my personal style. I’ve always been an artistic person, and the way I dressed naturally caught people’s attention. Seeing how others admired my style, I thought—why not extend that creativity to makeup and styling? That’s how it all began. I’m grateful that through my craft, I get to express myself just as I always have, and it’s even more fulfilling knowing that people appreciate it.
Q: Can you share your journey from starting out to becoming a recognized name in Kenya?
Freya: My journey has been driven by diligence, consistency, and staying true to my craft. No matter what I was doing at the time, I kept pushing forward, adapting to trends, and continuously improving my skills. Above all, I’ve always put God first—because, honestly, who are we without Him? While I haven’t yet reached my ultimate goal, I believe in aiming higher. You never know where life will take you, but you have to take that leap and keep striving.
Q: Why did you choose the name Freya Beauty? Does it hold any special significance?
Freya: I chose the name Freya Beauty simply because Freya is my name—my mom gave it to me, and I’ve always liked it. It’s also the name most people associate me with, especially because of my background in modeling. I was a Miss World Kenya finalist representing Uasin Gishu County from 2019 to 2021, and I’ve also held the title of Miss Noble, among other pageants. Since the name was already well-known in my journey, it felt natural to carry it into my brand.
Q: What sets Freya Beauty apart from other makeup artists and beauty brands in Kenya?
Freya: What truly sets me and my business apart is my foundation in faith—I put God first in everything I do. Beyond that, discipline, consistency, and actively listening to my clients play a huge role in my approach. I focus on providing the best experience for my clients while also attracting the right clientele. By understanding their needs and expectations, I can deliver my services with ease, without unnecessary stress, and with genuine happiness. At the end of the day, I believe in enjoying the journey as much as the destination.

Q: Bridal makeup is a significant part of your work. What is the most rewarding aspect of working with brides?
Freya: Yes, bridal makeup is a huge part of my work, and the most rewarding aspect is witnessing my brides’ reactions. Hearing them say, “Wow, you’ve done this! You’ve changed my day, my look. I feel amazing, I look amazing, and I can’t wait to get married! Even after, my pictures look stunning”—that feeling is priceless.A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime moment (or maybe twice if you’re lucky!), and it’s truly life-changing. That’s why I make it a priority to give my brides the best experience and service they deserve. I put my heart into my craft to ensure their special day is as magical as they’ve envisioned.
Q: What services do you offer, and how do you ensure a personalized experience for each client?
Freya: I offer a variety of services, and I always strive to personalize each experience for my clients. My background in psychology, specifically as a counselor, plays a big role in how I connect with and understand my clients. It’s important for me to not only provide a service but also ensure that my clients feel heard and valued. To achieve this, I offer consultations to better understand each client’s specific needs and preferences. My main services include bridal consultancy, makeup artistry, and makeup classes, as I also run an academy. Within bridal consultancy, we offer wig installation, wig laundry, customization, coloring, styling, and other bridal makeup and hair artistry services. Through this personalized approach, I ensure that every client receives the best experience tailored to their vision.
Q: How do you keep up with the ever-evolving beauty trends and techniques?
Freya: The key to staying updated with beauty trends is continuous improvement. I always make sure to refine my craft—whether that means taking lessons, learning from industry experts, or staying open-minded to new techniques. You’re never too experienced to learn something new. I also observe what others in the industry are doing, not just to follow trends but to gain insights and inspiration. Growth comes from being willing to evolve, and that’s what I always strive for.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you face in the Kenyan beauty industry, and how do you overcome it?
Freya: One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced, especially here in Eldoret, was shifting the narrative around makeup. For a long time, many people saw makeup as unnecessary or even negative. The challenge was to educate people that makeup is not a bad or “weird” thing—it’s a form of self-expression, just like fashion. Everyone should have the freedom to choose their makeup based on their personality and style.
Thankfully, with the growth of the beauty industry and more makeup artists emerging, it has become easier to break this stigma. We’ve been able to reach and educate more people, and now, makeup is becoming more widely accepted and appreciated. I’m happy to see that change happening.
Q: Do you find that social media plays a crucial role in growing your business? How do you leverage it?
Freya: Definitely! Social media has been essential in growing my business by helping me connect with clients and showcase my work. I focus on staying visible, engaging with my audience, and ensuring clear communication. It’s not just about posting—it’s about building relationships and understanding client needs.
I also embrace the ups and downs. Some days are more motivating than others, but growth comes from working through challenges and continuously improving. Social media is a powerful tool, and I use it to strengthen my brand while staying authentic.

Q: Who or what inspires your work as a makeup artist?
Freya: My biggest inspiration comes from my clients. Seeing their happiness, their reactions, and how confident they feel after my work keeps me going. There’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing I’ve helped someone feel amazing—I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists in Kenya looking to establish their brand?
Freya: Stay consistent in your work and focus on your own growth. Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to others—if you look at others, do it for inspiration, not competition. Let their success motivate you to improve and refine your craft.
Also, be open to collaboration and learning from others. There’s enough space for everyone in this industry, and each artist has their own unique market. If you stay dedicated and keep pushing forward, success will come.
Q: What are your future plans for Freya Beauty? Are you looking to expand or introduce new services?
Freya: Yes! Expansion is definitely in the works. We’re looking to introduce new services and extend our reach to other towns across Kenya. Beyond that, we’re also exploring the possibility of launching our own product line.
I believe that when you truly understand your clients’ needs and have their best interests at heart, growth becomes a natural step. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and I want Freya Beauty to evolve with it. So, watch out—exciting things are coming!

Q: If you could collaborate with any global beauty brand or artist, who would it be and why?
Freya: There are several brands I would love to collaborate with, but at the top of my list are Huda Beauty and Fenty Beauty. I love their products, especially how well they cater to African skin tones. As a makeup artist, I pay close attention to quality, and these brands have mastered inclusivity and formulation.
I also admire Bobbi Brown and many other amazing beauty brands worldwide. Right now, my focus is on growth, and looking at how Huda Beauty has evolved over the years inspires me. It has shown me the power of resilience and reinforced that, as women, we can build something truly remarkable. If these brands are all about making people feel beautiful and confident, then why not dream of collaborating with the best?
Q: What is your favorite makeup product or tool that you can’t work without?
Freya: I love this question—so funny! My absolute must-have tool is my eyebrow brush. I can’t work without it, and I don’t share it with anyone. I have a specific brush that I stick to, and it’s essential for my work. When it comes to products, it has to be lip gloss! I’m a gloss girlie—I love keeping my lips moisturized and looking fresh. Honestly, if you have the right eyebrow brush and a good gloss, you’re all set!

Q: Can you share a memorable client story that left a lasting impact on you?
Freya: I have so many! My clients are truly the best, and each one leaves an amazing impact on my life. It’s not just about me transforming their look—it’s also about how they inspire me and shape my perspective.
One story that stands out happened late last year. I was at my workstation when a bride walked in with her mom—no call, no appointment, just an unexpected visit. We greeted each other and started talking, and before I knew it, the meeting turned into something much deeper. They poured words of encouragement into me, uplifting me in ways I didn’t even realize I needed. They even prayed for me, which meant so much because I’m very big on faith and God. That moment reminded me why I do what I do—it’s about more than just beauty; it’s about connection, inspiration, and purpose
