Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, popularly known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again, has released 11 out of 30 songs from the upcoming MASA (Make America Slime Again) album. MASA is the highly anticipated, 8th studio album from the Baton Rouge rap superstar. It is to be fully released on the 25th of July, 2025 through DeSean’s record label Never Broke Again and Universal Music Group’s Motown. In a promotional Instagram post released on May 15th, 2025, Gaulden through his Never Broke Again label, revealed the dates of the tour bearing the same name. MASA tour begins on September 2nd, 2025, in Dallas, Texas and will continue through several cities in the United States.

Kentrell was released from federal prison on March 24, 2025. He served approximately 11 months and had been in custody since his arrest in April 2024 on drug and gun charges. Before that, he was on house arrest for two and a half years for gun charges as well. This will mark his first album of the year, first career tour and his first stage performance since March 7th, 2020. On May 29th, 2025, Kentrell received a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump, releasing him from his prior probation restrictions and in turn allowing the tour to take place.
Track By Track Analysis
On May 3, 2025, YoungBoy Never Broke Again released “Where I Been / Shot Callin” as a double track, following the format of his earlier release “Heart and Soul/Alligator Walk.” Where I Been is a deeply introspective track showcasing Mr. Gaulden’s standout vocal performance. This melodic trap style allows for heartfelt lyrics to be heard. He addresses personal struggles such as addiction, isolation during prison time, and a new chance at life with opportunities he has been given. Shot Callin is a gritty song with a hard-hitting trap beat, booming bass and sharp hi-hats typical of YoungBoy’s high-energy releases. These are usually braggadocious songs with aggressive delivery and are fan favorites.
Finest was released on the 22nd of May, 2025. The track features a slow, melodic trap instrumental with soulful piano and guitar melodies. This creates an introspective and emotional atmosphere perfect for YoungBoy’s raw, heartfelt delivery. Themes of identity, self-doubt, and personal struggles are clearly expressed in the lyrics. Legal battles, relationship troubles, betrayal and a ‘thug’ mentality to mention a few. It is one of my favorites.
Top Tingz is a homage to a previous track called Put It On Me. Both share sexual themes where he leans into a dominant persona with brazen lyrics. It’s booming bass and crisp hi-hats set the tempo for Kentrell’s delivery. It’s a song to let loose and dance with your partner to.
Diesel / Over was released as another double track on the 2nd of July, 2025. Diesel features hard-hitting 808s with an aggressive, fast-paced delivery and flow. Themes of success litter every other lyric, such as a hefty sum for his tour in the first verse: “First place, fifty mill’ for tourin’, b****, I’m ready now.” He adds that he is wearing unreleased Diesel, a fashion brand. Moreover, he also touches on the street life, speaking on how he won’t say anything when the law comes after him.
Over shifts the tone into another introspective setting. The chorus hints at a longing or possible regret of an intimate relationship with a woman. This shows YoungBoy’s awareness, vulnerability, and versatility in shifting from serious topics to less serious ones and vice versa.
Peepin is another one of my favorites. It was one of 5 audio tracks released on the 4th of July, 2025. It features a blues-type beat with a soothing piano instrumental. DeSean’s vocals shine again in the chorus. Themes of distrust, survival, emotional turmoil, and fleeting relationships are felt through the lyrics. The title “Peepin” refers to staying vigilant, watching for betrayal in both the streets and personal relationships.
Priorities features a declaration that Youngboy has serious personal priorities despite mentioning in an earlier line that his desires are women and money. He wants to balance both. The beat features bouncy 808s with a space-like instrumental, giving the song a fun and celebratory vibe.
When Time Pass delivers another introspective song in which “Lil Top” captures his struggles with life’s hardships, strained relationships, and his drive to achieve financial and emotional stability. Regret over distractions and reflections on family are evident as he proclaims, “And I know, when time pass in a flash, I’ma get my money right.” The beat is melodic, setting a soulful atmosphere fitting perfectly with the themes discussed.
MASA features a lovely piano sample and soft-hitting 808s. The repeated phrase “Make America Slime Again” is a daring, politically charged assertion that repurposes Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan to reflect YoungBoy’s “slime” persona of street devotion, hustle, and defiance. The July 4th release date emphasizes this, connecting his independence to the United States’ Independence Day and building a narrative of reclaiming his position in the music industry as a whole.
Kickboxer tactfully utilizes soft trumpets despite being a high-energy trap production with sharp snares that create a head-nodding tempo. The song mostly speaks about material success. It’s a declaration of his flashy lifestyle, with the music video depicting him in Paris.
Verdict

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has a cult fanbase due to his unique style, story, and relatability. So far, the album is a solid 9 out of 10. The production is on point, themes are versatile and the creativity speaks for itself. YoungBoy is recognized as the rapper with the most RIAA platinum-certified albums from 2015 to 2025, showcasing his longevity. His work ethic is inspiring to all artists and we are sure to enjoy the full release at the end of the month. Why not read another article here?
