Mental health in Kenya is no longer a whispered conversation. It is becoming a public priority, and at the heart of this change stands Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy (AKC). Established to bridge the gap between healthcare and mental wellness, AKC has steadily carved its place as a leading voice in the country’s mental health space.

For AKC, mental wellness is about building a culture where mental health is understood, embraced, and accessible to all.

Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy was born out of a shared vision to bridge the gap between healthcare and mental wellness in Kenya. Inspired by Dr. Ahmed Kalebi’s passion for holistic health and wellness, the consultancy was established to extend that same excellence and integrity into the mental health space.”

What began as a mission to provide quality mental health care has grown into a movement. Over time, AKC evolved into a trusted Counseling and Wellness Consultancy, committed to normalizing mental health conversations, breaking stigma, and creating accessible pathways to care for individuals, families, and organizations. Today, AKC works with schools, corporates, and communities to create spaces where mental health is a true priority.

“Our mission is to make mental wellness accessible, relatable, and sustainable for all. We envision a Kenya where mental health is a shared priority, not a privilege. It is about balance, self-awareness, and support, and this is what every program we design reflects.”

From corporate wellness training to student wellbeing programs, AKC has built its work around empathy, professionalism, and evidence-based approaches. Aminatuzahra believes that this holistic approach is key to changing the mental health field.

How Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy is Redefining Mental Health Support

Redefining mental health support requires more than therapy, it requires systems that meet people where they are, in ways that address their unique needs. Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy (AKC) approaches mental wellness with this philosophy at its core, offering a diverse range of services designed to cater to individuals, organizations, and communities.

“Our vision has always been to go beyond conventional mental health support,” says Aminatuzahra Kalebi, Director & Lead Psychologist, Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy. “We want to embed mental wellness into the heart of workplaces, schools, and everyday life.”

AKC offers a wide range of services designed to support both individuals and organizations. These include:

  • Counseling & Therapy (individual, family, adolescent, and couples therapy)
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) for organizations
  • Corporate and Institutional Wellness Programs
  • School Wellness Programs (for students, teachers, and parents)
  • Workshops and Trainings on mental health awareness, resilience, and emotional intelligence

In addition, AKC partners with healthcare institutions, community organizations, and corporates to integrate mental wellness into everyday systems.

“Each package we design starts with a deep understanding of the client’s context,” Aminatuzahra explains. “This ensures the solution is not only effective but sustainable.”

Their three core packages illustrate this tailored approach:

  • Corporate Wellness focuses on stress management, burnout prevention, leadership wellbeing, and confidential employee support through the EAP model.
  • School Wellness builds psychosocial safety by offering student counseling, teacher wellness sessions, and parent engagement workshops.
  • General Wellness offers one-on-one therapy and community wellness programs to help individuals and families build healthier, more resilient lives.

These programs are rooted in the understanding that mental wellness is not one-size-fits-all.

“What works for a corporate team is not necessarily what works for a school or a family.. That’s why we start with an assessment, so every program fits the reality of the people it serves.”

AKC has also identified pressing mental health challenges that span workplaces and schools. Rising stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue are common in professional settings, while students face growing anxiety, self-esteem struggles, and emotional overwhelm.

A 2025 study conducted by the Shamiri Institute and Aga Khan University revealed significant mental health concerns among Kenyan adolescents, with 23.9% of those who experienced multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) reporting deep mental health scars . This underscores the urgency of addressing mental health challenges in educational settings. Similarly, a study published in Frontiers in Public Health in 2025 found that 30.9% of university students in Kenya reported mental health conditions, with first-year students exhibiting the highest prevalence at 40.7% . These findings highlight the critical need for targeted mental health interventions in both academic and professional environments.

“Our focus is always on prevention, education, and building sustainable wellbeing systems,” Aminatuzahra explains. “We don’t want mental health support to be reactive only, we want it to be proactive, part of everyday life.”

The reality is clear, mental health challenges in workplaces, schools, and communities are growing, and the cost of neglect is far too high. By tailoring solutions to specific needs and embedding wellness into everyday systems, AKC ensures that mental health support is not reactive but proactive. This is why AKC’s work is relevant and vital in shaping a healthier, stronger Kenya.

Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy Transforming Lives and Communities

For Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy (AKC), mental health support is not confined to offices or clinics, it is a movement that reaches into communities, schools, and workplaces, transforming lives one person at a time. Their approach recognizes that healing happens most powerfully when it is embedded in real-life contexts and driven by empathy.

Our work has reached hundreds of individuals through schools, corporate settings, and community programs. One of our most meaningful initiatives was at Kamiti Prison, where we led trauma-informed therapy and staff wellness interventions. The impact was profound, creating safe spaces for self-reflection, emotional healing, and behavioral change among both inmates and staff.”

She says such moments remind them that mental wellness is possible, even in the most challenging environments, a powerful reason why their work matters, bringing hope and healing where it is needed most.

This kind of impact is clear across AKC’s work in schools and workplaces. In educational settings, for example, AKC has seen students who once struggled with anxiety build greater confidence, emotional balance, and stronger coping skills. In workplaces, their wellness programs create healthier environments, reduce burnout, and boost productivity among employees.

The relevance of AKC’s work extends even further in the context of this year’s World Mental Health Day theme, Mental Health in Humanitarian Emergencies.” Aminatuzahra notes:

“We believe mental health care is most needed during moments of crisis. Our community wellness sessions often target vulnerable populations, including school children, healthcare workers, and families recovering from trauma. By embedding psychosocial care in community response programs, AKC ensures that emotional recovery goes hand-in-hand with physical and social rebuilding.”

Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy’s approach offers a model that grassroots organizations in Kenya can emulate. By embedding psychosocial care into community response programs, mental health NGOs can ensure support reaches those most affected during crises.
